Frequently Asked Questions

Beyond the legal requirement for such type of determinations, with the integration of Cyprus in the European Union, the requirement of each citizen-consumer that the product he/she buys is safe for the health also exists. This type of safety is only offered with control of the product from an independent laboratory.

According to the Cypriot legislation about the chemical determinations, only individuals which are registered in the council of registration of chemists can hold such determinations.

According to the European legislation only laboratories which follow the GLP and allocate argued system of quality can hold independent determinations for the control of product.

Accreditation of laboratory is a big process which offered only from national institutions of each country and with it is certified that the laboratory has all the supplies (personal, instruments, knowledge etc) in order to holds the determination for the each particular parameter for which it has accredited.

Such legal restriction for this subject does not exist. However the laboratory cannot offer accredited method and thus the determination does not have a legal status. That means it cannot be used for presentation in court, exports etc.

An explicit difference used to exist between the two and only analyses of government owned laboratories were acceptable - mainly for legal aims. However, today with the directives of European Union a difference does not exist any more and the accreditation holds even beyond the borders of a country.

Of course it can, provided that the FoodLab is accredited for the particular parameter.

You can confirm Foodlab's (and of any other lab)accreditation by visiting the official web pages of GNIA (Greek National Institution for Accreditation). See also the page Quality of Services
