Short Historical Review

FoodLab began its operation as a food and water specialized Laboratory in July of 1991. In 1993 analyses on environmental samples were introduced (waste water, sludge, solids and gases) and in 1995 the ISO 9002 procedures were implemented for the first time.

In 1998 the laboratory personnel increased to 4 scientists while today it employs 23 and support personnel of 5.

In 1999 the procedures of 45001 were implemented and in February 2002 the laboratory applied for official accreditation based on EN ISO 17025 before a European Board -to the Greek Accreditation Board (ESYD), and in July of the same year the pre-evaluation process was initiated. In Nov 2002 the laboratory underwent the final evaluation and on Jan. 11, 2003 the official accreditation notice was received, making the Foodlab the first laboratory on the island to receive the accreditation based on EN ISO 17025.

In January 2006 the laboratory has completed its first accreditation period, had a major review of all the accredited methods and expanded its scope to include toxins and methods on MS techniques. At the same period the laboratory entered the R&D sector by participating both at local and European projects.
